The Apache Athletics program has a proud tradition of excellence that reaches back to its inception. The young athletes are formed to be competitors who perform to the best of their individual ability on the field, on the court, on the track, in the classroom, and in life. Our coaching staff is faith-filled and strives to develop growth in our student athletes’ minds, bodies and spiritual lives. Teamwork, leadership, and our strong coaching staff have led the Apaches to numerous playoff appearances and championships in the AIAL Class AA division within the Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Schools.
Our Athletic Program is extensive and includes the following sports;
Boys and Girls Basketball
Boys Football
Girls Cheerleading
Track & Field
Cross Country
Girls Volleyball
Tennis
Baseball
Softball
In Middle School, we want to expose our student athletes to every sport out there, so that when they enter high school, they can be confident in their athletic career.
6th Grade - students are encouraged to try every sport. Individual playing time between athletes is split evenly.
7th Grade - students are encouraged to pursue the sports they enjoy most. Individual playing time is slightly more competitive.
8th Grade - students are encouraged to focus specifically on the sports they want to play in high school. At this stage, individual playing time is determined by the skill level of an athlete
SMS is committed to an athletic program that first and foremost builds Christian character. Character that not only shows itself worthy of Christ when tested in competition, but character that shows itself worthy of Christ when tested in life.
Competitive athletics by nature creates an environment that is physically, emotionally and personally demanding. Our prayer is that all of our student-athletes learn the following from their athletic involvement at SMS:
